Past studies conducted on anabolic steroid users have shown that these drugs may boost blood pressure as a result of them disrupting the function of nitric oxide, a blood pressure regulator, according to a report published by the British Journal of Sports Medicine.[ Related: Men with more testosterone are able to increase their strength ]In the study, which followed more than 1,000 recreational, anabolic steroid users between the ages of 18 and 40, researchers discovered increased blood pressure, heart rate, breathing rate and even blood-brain barrier integrity -- all of which could potentially affect one's overall life expectancy as well as their cognitive functioning, anabolic steroid and kidney stones. The researchers also found that those with the highest testosterone levels -- who used the most anabolic steroids -- had increased risk of developing high blood pressure, as well as having impaired cardiac function.[ Related: Muscle strength is important for men with depression ]In the short term, an increased number of heart beats per minute is the most common reason people suffer from high blood pressure, according to the report, which was published by the British Journal of Sports Medicine. In the long term, an increased heart rate can lead to complications like sudden death in older men and stroke in women, tests function steroid and anabolic liver. While the researchers cautioned researchers from doing excessive blood pressure, they noted that these problems in themselves cannot necessarily be treated or prevented -- they could be caused by the drug in question. They also found in one case of an elderly man who was diagnosed with high blood pressure, there was no increase in testosterone levels following treatment with the drug, suggesting it was the medication, anabolic steroid alternatives.[ Related: Anabolic steroid users are more likely to be depressed ]"Taken all together, our results provide strong evidence that anabolic steroids are linked to increased blood pressure," lead study author David Stuckler said in a statement. "However, we also have a strong recommendation for caution in people who might be considered potentially at risk as our study has no control group, so we cannot make absolute statements about risk, anabolic steroid and liver function tests. While we're not recommending that people should refrain from taking anabolic steroids, we are suggesting that people who might not be considered at risk should not take steroids at all, anabolic steroid beginner cycle."The other researchers included Dr. Gao Xiong and Dr. John W.
